The Flu

posted Jan 31, 2018, 7:37 AM by Alison E Harvey
Influenza or Flu season is here in our schools.  Flu is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses that infect the nose, throat, and sometimes the lungs.

"Take 3" Actions to Fight Flue:
  • Vaccinate-get a flu shot every year
  • Stop Germs-wash hands often and avoid touching your eyes, nose & mouth
  • Antiviral Drugs if your doctor prescribes them
Flu Symptoms: People who have the flu often feel some or all of theses signs and symptoms that start suddenly, not gradually.
  • Fever or feeling feverish/chills
  • Cough
  • Sore Throat
  • Runny or stuffy nose
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headache
  • Fatigue (very tired)
  • Some people also have vomiting or diarrhea, though this is more common in children
How long should my child stay home?  Your child should remain at home if symptoms are serious enough to interfere with your child's ability to learn.  Your child should be eating, drinking, sleeping, playing normally AND fever free for a full 24 hours without fever-reducing medications before returning to school.
